Communications and Multimedia Associate (Education Policy Program)

New America’s Education Policy Program (EPP), a leading nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute, is seeking a communications and multimedia associate.

The communications and multimedia associate will collaborate with communications, design, and production teams within EPP and New America’s Central Communications team to transform New America’s policy research into designed materials for digital and print.  Materials include infographics, illustrations, social media collateral, video editing, video animations, data visualizations. The associate will also assist with front-end and back-end website management and newsletter compilation and design. We are looking for candidates who can conceptualize design content, manage design projects, and execute the entire production process. Strong attention to detail and meeting quick deadlines are important in this role.

This position will report directly to EPP’s Senior Communications Manager.


  • Further EPP and New America brand through managing and updating branding design. This involves concepting, creating templates, and overseeing the brand and “sub-brands.”
    • Continue to establish multimedia branding through social media accounts
    • Generate innovative design ideas while working within the framework of an existing brand identity as well as building upon brand identity.
    • Build brand-consistent designs for email campaigns, events, newsletters, social media, and all other digital products.
    • Create data visualizations using Datawrapper and other programs and training analysts on how to use the software, reviewing analyst-produced data visualizations
    • Collaborate with the New America Central Design team using Figma
  • Work in collaboration with the Central Communications design and studio teams to produce/oversee designed collateral, including infographics, social media collateral, video edits/ animations, illustrations, typographic materials, print/ layout collateral, and other visualizations that help to communicate complex policy ideas.
    • Work with EPP sub-programs to conceptualize and create graphic elements to integrate with program research and outreach.
    • Triage incoming graphics requests and assess where things come in, where it is stored so it is easily retrieved, and its priority
  • Video production including editing videos, creating animations, storyboarding, managing music and audio, managing the upload of designed/edited video collateral on YouTube
  • Oversee website management projects including monitoring analytics, creating content pages, and other tasks to help our team of analysts display their work in clear, concise, and easily understandable ways for our audiences
  • Drafting and editing our weekly newsletter
  • Light administrative duties as needed.


The ideal candidate has:

  • An interest in translating complex policy documents and data into compelling visual products.
  • A design portfolio that showcases a good understanding of visual design principles, composition, typography, imagery, illustration, and iconography.
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Advanced knowledge of Premiere Pro and After Effects. Additional experience, coding, D3, mapping or HTML/CSS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in both Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other team members, suggest creative ideas, manage print and digital production processes, and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and eagerness to work in a collaborative, innovative public policy setting.

Location : This position is remote,  but selected candidate may work from the DC office if they choose.
