New America’s Resilient Communities Initiative is seeking a Program Associate to support our work with local groups to design, build, and manage innovative approaches to 21st century risks and challenges. We seek to support communities by aligning a climate justice agenda with a digital justice framework where technology enhances preparedness, equitable economic development, and resilience.
Our flagship project is Resilient Networks NYC, a New York City Economic Development Corporation program designed to build resilience and economic development through the development of community-led storm-hardened neighborhood wireless networks. These networks not only increase local preparedness, but can create entrepreneurship, media, tech, and arts opportunities; platforms for local businesses to share and coordinate services; systems for local data collection and management; and tools for local leaders to organize, connect, and compile and share information for community development and organizing.
The Program Associate will split her/his time between assisting the Deputy Director with project management tasks and supporting the Technology and Training Coordinator with curriculum development/implementation and other tasks as detailed below. This position will require some travel among five project sites across New York City. It is a full-time 40-hour a week salaried position, requiring occasional work on evenings and weekends.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in resilience, climate adaptation, community organizing, local economic development, social justice, community technology, and/or urban planning and design. We are seeking candidates with strong organizational and project management skills as well as knowledge of/experience in the programmatic areas of interest listed below.
