Intern (Paid) Winter/Spring 2021 TechCongress

Do you want to be at the center of tech policymaking in Washington? TechCongress seeks a self-motivated graduate or undergraduate student or an individual with similar experience for a part-time or full-time internship for winter and spring 2021 in our Washington, D.C. office. You should have an interest in learning about Congress. 

TechCongress is building 21st century government with technology talent through our Congressional Innovation Fellowship. We are a non-profit startup incubated at the Open Technology Institute at New America. Our mission is to bridge the divide between Congress and the technology sector by placing technologists to work with Members of Congress and Congressional Committees in order to build capacity in Congress, train cross-sector leaders— who can understand the challenges of government and the technology community— and keep Congress up-to-date about the latest challenges and opportunities relating to technology.

We are looking for a self-starting intern to help us build and grow the program!

About the Intern: 

TechCongress is looking for an Intern to work with staff and fellows. You will support TechCongress’s efforts to grow our Congressional Innovation Fellowship and support on communications needs. The internship is based in Washington, D.C., right next door to the White House. 

Whether this position will do its work in the New America office or from home will be determined during the hiring process and we anticipate that will change as circumstances dictate.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support the administration of the Congressional Innovation Fellowship, and help run our January orientation program. 
  • Support TechCongress’ s editorial efforts - research, content creation, and copyediting;
  • Support analysis and strategic planning of our social media strategy;
  • Help keep TechCongress’s website current, creating and uploading content;
  • Support TechCongress events through live tweeting;
  • Assist with TechCongress’s monthly newsletter by summarizing recent work;

 You will also have the opportunity to author or co-author blog posts, articles, press releases or press pitches, as well as the chance to attend educational events.

Required Qualifications:

  • A self-starter who can take on projects with minimal supervision;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, and keen attention to detail;
  • Available to work between 20-40 hours a week (part time or full time).

Additional Skills (a plus, but not required):

  • Familiarity with Squarespace, MailChimp, Zapier, Canva or image editing software;
  • Experience managing an organizational social media accounts (non-personal accounts); 
  • Interest in tech and policy.
