Political Reform Program

New America’s Political Reform program is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to work full time in our Washington, DC office. The Senior Data Analyst will use rigorous data analysis to answer the hard questions about the design of our democratic institutions, with an initial focus on the potential for multiparty democracy in America.

New America is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States. We engage in longer-term research, and policy development, and support explanatory and analytical journalism on key policy issues of the day.

Launched in 2014, New America’s Political Reform program is reimagining the institutions of American democracy for the 21st century. We envision a system of self-governance that is representative, dynamic, and innovative in confronting the challenges of contemporary political life in a diverse and pluralistic nation.


  • Assist with data management and research by collecting and cleaning data.
  • Conduct cutting-edge data analysis.
  • Create graphs and figures, visualize data, and prepare tables for reports and analysis.
  • Develop original ideas for data analysis.
  • Commission and manage additional analysis from other researchers.
  • Other responsibilities and opportunities as required or as time allows, including opportunities to develop individual research and writing portfolio.


  • Degree in political science or related social or policy science discipline preferred.
  • Strong commitment to improving the quality of American democracy and willingness to think big.
  • Educational background or work experience in, data science, and/or data collection and analysis methods, primarily quantitative).
  • Strong statistical software skills (ideally R).
  • Demonstrated experience with data management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Location: This position is based in New America’s Washington, DC office. The person hired for this position must be willing to move to or currently reside in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia.

Operating status and Vaccine Policy:  New America has made the safety of our staff and our surrounding community a top priority. As part of that commitment, New America staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. New America will require all staff to submit proof of complete vaccination against COVID-19 to be in the DC office.

Compensation: This is a full-time position with a budgeted annual salary of $77,000 – $90,000, depending on experience, plus a generous benefits package.
