New America CA seeks a Program Associate with a passion for public problem solving and experience supporting the day-to-day operations of a mission-driven organization. The Program Associate will support the team in administering the CA Fellowship, executing our communications strategy, coordinating public events, and managing operations. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who is organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. In addition to the administrative responsibilities of this role, there will be opportunities to initiate projects in alignment with broader organizational objectives. 


  • Manage day-to-day operations of the CA office and serve as a liaison to New America departments in DC 
  • In collaboration with the Director and Associate Director, implement external communications across website, newsletter, social media, and other media outlets. Continuously seek opportunities to raise the public profile of New America in California.
  • Coordinate internal communications across New America with fellows, program staff, and central services. 
  • Track and analyze press coverage of fellows work and issue areas, identify editorial opportunities
  • Contribute to developing events strategy and execution, including panel discussions, film screenings, networking mixers, conference, and private meetings. Manage logistics for public events and internal programming
  • Support the outreach, recruitment, and logistics for our annual CA Fellows Program as needed
  • Build relationships with New America programs, experts in relevant fields, and potential partners. 
  • Suggest new ideas and initiate projects. 


  • A bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum 3-years nonprofit, civic engagement, technology, communications and/or event management experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills—candidates should have the ability to prioritize work and manage time on multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Interest in and experience managing social media accounts on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively—candidates should be self-motivated, but also enthusiastic team players open to feedback and collaboration.
  • Curiosity, eagerness, and ability to develop new knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Strong interest in the mission of New America CA including civic innovation, public problem solving, and social entrepreneurship.
