The communications internship at OTI offers the opportunity to work on the many issues at the core of OTI, including net neutrality, encryption, freedom of expression, and exploring issues related to technology as it affects communities.
OTI seeks an enthusiastic, motivated undergraduate or graduate student or an individual with similar experience for a full-time communications internship for Summer 2018 in our Washington, D.C. office. You should be passionate about tech policy and interested in learning about and breaking down complex issues for broad audiences, while working in a rapidly-changing environment.
OTI works at the intersection of technology and policy to ensure that every community has equitable access to digital technology and its benefits. OTI’s staff includes noted experts on multiple issues who work closely with a diverse team of policy experts, technologists, social scientists, and data analysts. OTI is housed within New America, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States. OTI’s work covers a range of Internet policy issues, including but not limited to net neutrality, broadband access and adoption, wireless broadband and spectrum, cybersecurity, encryption, government surveillance, Internet governance, privacy, and civil liberties.
About the Job: OTI is looking for a Communications Intern to work with our internal communications team. They will help support OTI’s efforts to build public discussion around issues by assisting with press list curation, content creation, creating visuals for the website and for social media, and supporting institutional efforts to refine the user experience on our website. They will report to the Director of Strategic Communications and Outreach. The internship is based in Washington, D.C., right next door to the White House.
